Brian Zahnd – God’s Attitude Toward You (Jeremiah 31:20)

[app_audio src=”http://traffic.libsyn.com/redeeminggod/01_Brian_Zahnd_Gods_Attitude_Toward_You.mp3″][contentblock id=2 img=html.png]What does God think about you? In theological discussions, we often talk about what humans think about God, but a more basic and fundamental question might be what God thinks about us?

The guest speaker for this episode of Theology.fm is Brian Zahnd, and he presents what I believe to be the most fundamental truth in theology.

If you want your theology to be based on the right ideas and get started in the right direction, the truth that Pastor Brian Zahnd presents in today’s show is absolutely essential for you to grasp.

In this show, Pastor Zahnd teaches about God’s attitude toward you.

God’s Attitude Toward You

The one truth that has been most influential in the growth of my own theology is the truth that God looks like Jesus.

Maybe this is something you have always known, but for me, it was something I learned relatively recently, maybe within the last five years or so. I am not sure why it took me so long to hear this truth. I went to Bible college and Seminary and even was a pastor for a number of years, but I don’t ever recall hearing (or preaching) that God looks like Jesus.

But once I came to see this truth, nothing has ever been the same again. In my opinion, this is the most radical, the most important, the most fundamental, and the most paradigm-shifting truth you can learn in your theological development.

God looks like Jesus.

To put it another way, Jesus reveals God to us.

Or, if you want to know what God is like, just look at Jesus.

Jesus said it this way: “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father” (John 14:9).

In the prologue to his gospel, the Apostle John said that no man has seen God, but Jesus has revealed Him (John 1:18). In other words, nobody saw God or knew what God was really like until Jesus revealed God to us.

Paul also knew this, which is why he wrote that Jesus is “the image of the invisible God (Col 1:15).

The author of Hebrews also held this truth. We read in Hebrews 1:3 that Jesus is the exact representation of God.

This truth is mentioned so often in Scripture because this truth changes everything. It changes how we read Scripture, how we think about God, how we view sin, how we view ourselves, and how we view and treat other people. That’s why I say that this is the most influential and fundamental truth in theology. It is the cornerstone of good theology.

If you read my writings, listen to my podcast, or subscribe to my blog, you will see me talk about this idea a lot. But I’m not the only one.

Most (if not all) of the contributors to Theology.fm have this idea at the center of their theology, and you will hear them talk about it as well.

This show is from Brian Zahnd, and he shows this same truth. He explains that if we want to know God’s attitude toward us, all we need to do is look at Jesus. Why? Because God is like Jesus and Jesus reveals God to us—not just how God acts, but also how God thinks and feels about you and me.

After listening to this message from Brian Zahnd, leave a comment below about your view of God and you think God views you. When you think about God’s attitude toward you, what comes to mind? How do you think God views your sin? How does the truth that God looks like Jesus change the way you think about how God thinks about you?
